Dictionary Definition: 

  • The original elephant tamer, he composed a Sanskrit work called (colophon title) Hastyāyurveda Saṃhitā, which still exists. See Edgerton, Elephant Lore, p. 3 et passim. He revealed his knowledge to the King of Aṅga, Romapāda.
