Paṇ chen I Blo bzang chos kyi rgyal mtshan (1567/8-1662)
Dictionary Definition:
Rabsal, pp. 209-212. Gives dates as 1570-1662. Mkhas grub Sangs rgyas ye shes recognized him as a rebirth of Dben sa pa. In his 17th year, he went to study at Bkra shis lhun po where he became abbot in his 32nd year.
Some uninscribed images are identified with him in Portraits of the Masters, p. 316 ff. The identification is questionable, however. From the facial & cranial physiognomy, they would seem to resemble representations of Bu ston Rin chen grub.
There is a woodblock depiction in Tucci's Tibetan Painted Scrolls, figure 100 at p. 451.
