Dictionary Definition: 

  • A Korean advocate of esoteric Buddhism, credited with introducing the Shinin school, he was in China from 632-638. He made use of mantra and mandala. He magically averted a Tang invasion in 668 CE, and again in 669. Grayson, Religious Syncretism, p. 193.
