The Book of the Composition of Alchemy is believed to be the earliest alchemical text to be translated from Arabic into Latin. It was translated by Robert of Chester, an Englishman, on February 11, 1144. Morienus was a Greek (Rumi) Christian living as a recluse in the mountains of Jerusalem.
