Gopadatta (Sa ‘tsho byin, Sa ‘tshos byin)

Dictionary Definition: 

  • See under Guhyadatta. So far Michael Hahn has managed to identify 17 (of what was probably an original 34 chapters) of Gopadatta's Jātakamālā. Giuseppe Tucci once purchased, in Nepal, a partial manuscript of the Sanskrit, but this manuscript can no longer be located.
  • Lobsang Dargyay, Die Legende von den sieben Prinzessinnen (Saptakumārikāvadāna). In der poetischen Fassung von Guhyadatta/Gopadatta aufgrund der tibetischen Überzetzung herausgegeban, übersetzt und bearbeitet, Wiener Studien zur Tibetologie und Buddhismuskunde, no. 2 (Vienna 1978). This exists in an independent Tibetan text, but it is the only āvadāna by Gopadatta found in Tibetan translation.
