Ghaṇṭāpāda (Dril bu pa)

Dictionary Definition:

  • Dril bu pa: Tôh. nos. 2106, 2107. Is it possible this is but a shortened form of the name Vajraghaṇṭa?
  • Shaw, PE, pp. 134, 179-180, 193-194, 246.
  • Blue Annals, pp. 389, 754, 811.
  • Ghaṇṭāpā. No. 52 in Sempa Dorje. Illustration following p. 134. His name in Tibetan: Dril bu'i zhabs. He was a kṣatriya from Vārendra Nālandā. Contemporary of King Devapāla.
  • Moriguchi, p. 18, lists an Uḍiyān(ādi)krama, or Cakrasaṃvarapañcakrama, in 5 leaves, which in Tôh. is attributed to Vajraghaṇṭa (the same person by a variant name, evidently).
  • Jackson, ESM, p. 125.
  • "Ghaṇṭāpādīya Pañcakrama." Bendall, Subhāṣita, folio 71. Also called Pañcakramopadeśa.
  • Luczanits, Eight Great, p. 81.
  • Linrothe, Holy Madness, pp. 210-211.
  • Portraits of the Masters, p. 225. The inscription on the back of this image reads gril bu pa, an obvious mistake for Dril bu pa.
