Fazun (1902-1980)

Dictionary Definition: 

  • Aka Fa-tsun, which is actually his secondary name. His primary name given at his ordination was Miaogui. He studied at a Tibetan Language Institute in Beijing that was founded by Ven. Dayong. In 1926, he studied with a teacher named Byams pa smon lam. He translated many Tibetan texts into Chinese, including Tsongkhapa's Lam rin chen mo, the dictionary by Dge bshes Chos grags, etc. The Cultural Revolution, from 1966 to 1972, was spent in prison.
