毛頭 A name for 凡夫 ordinary people, i. e. non-Buddhists, the unenlightened; the 毛 is said to be a translation ofvāla, hair or down, which in turn is considered an error forbāla, ignorant, foolish, i. e. simple people who are easily beguiled. It is also said to be a form ofbala-pṛthag-jana, v. 婆, which is intp. as born in ignorance; the ignorant and untutored in general.
