The first of the 'five periods' as defined by Tiantai, according to which school thissūtrawas delivered by Śākyamuni immediately after his enlightenment; but accounts vary as to whether it was on the second or third seventh day; all these claims are, however, devoid of evidence, thesūtrabeing a Mahāyāna creation.
