The six schools, i. e. 三論宗; 法相宗; 華嚴宗; 律宗; 成實宗, and 俱舍宗 q. v.; the last two are styled Hīnayāna schools. Mahāyāna in Japan puts in place of them 天台宗 and 真言宗 Tendai and Shingon.
