The five different natures as grouped by the 法相宗 Dharmalakṣana sect; of these the first and second, while able to attain to non-return to mortality, are unable to reach Buddhahood; of the fourth some may, others may not reach it; the fifth will be reborn as devas or men: (1)śrāvakas for arhats; (2) pratyekabuddhas forpratyekabuddha-hood; (3) bodhisattvas for Buddhahood; (4) indefinite; (5) outsiders who have not the Buddha mind. TheSutra of Perfect Enlightenment圓覺經 has another group, i. e. the natures of (1) ordinary good people; (2)śrāvakas andpratyekabuddhas; (3) bodhisattvas; (4) indefinite; (5) heretics.
