Mināti2 [Vedic mināti, mī (or mi), to diminish; cp. Gr. minu/w diminish; Lat. minor=E. minor; Goth. mins (little), compar, minniza, superl. minnists=Ger. mindest. -- The Dhtp 502 gives mi with "hiŋsā," the Dhtm 725 with "hiŋsana." It applies the same interpretation to a root midh (Dhtm 536), which is probably abstracted fr. Pass. mīyati] to diminish; also: to hurt, injure. Very rare, only in some prep. combns. -- See also mīyati.
