The less correct spelling Oderic di Perdone also occurs. Some give his birthdate as ca. 1274, 1276, or 1286. There are a number of editions and translations of his travel account. He departed from Venice sometime between 1316 and 1318 and did not return to Europe until 1330. Accompanying him on his journeys was an Irishman called Friar James.
