He and his uncle Asita, q.v., were Himalayan sages who went to inspect the body of the newly born Siddhārtha. The Tibetan forms of their names appear, with a slight mistake, in the longer Lde'u history, p. 48: de'i tshe drang srong nyon mongs med dang snag gi tsha bo mes byin gnyis kyis... (here Mes byin has to be read as Mis byin). Edgerton's dictionary names his maternal nephew "Nālaka."
