Dictionary Definition: 

  • A Buddhist monk from central India who traveled to China in 655, via Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. The Chinese Emperor sent him back to collect medicinal herbs and he returned to China in 883. White, Alchemical Body, p. 61 (here there is mention of an alchemist Nandikeśvara, who may be the same person).
