Mgon po skyabs (Ujumujin Gung, 18th century)

Dictionary Definition: 

  • Often called Gung Mgon po skyabs. Gombojab. He was of aristocratic Mongolian origins, and had the title Gong, "Duke." Chinese form of his Tibetan name was Gongbu Chabu.
  • See Lo Bue in Skorupski, ed., Indo-Tibetan Studies (Tring 1990), p. 196. In 1742-3 he translated the Pratimalakṣaṇa into Chinese.
  • Willemen, Defining, pp. 16-19. His Rgya nag chos 'byung includes a Tibetan translation of the Zhiyuanlu, canon catalog compiled during Qubilai's reign between 1285-1287 CE.
  • An important discussion of resources is found in a review by J. W. de Jong, T'oung Pao, vol. 54 (1968), pp. 173-189.
  • It is said that there was never in the past any translator who knew four different languages apart from Gung Mgon po skyabs. Sgo mang Dge bshes Ngag dbang nyi ma, Works, vol. 6, p. 498.
