  • The only complete translation known in the Muslim world is that made directly from the Greek into Arabic by Iṣṭifān ibn Basil (Stephanos, son of Basileos) in circa 854 in Baghdad, although there was probably an earlier Syriac translation. It almost immediately received improvements in other parts of the Islamic world, from Cordova to Samarkand. A manuscript is kept on display in the British Library.
