Dhyānabhadra (*Bsam gtan bzang po, 1254?-1363)

Dictionary Definition:

  • Nakamura, p. 341 note. An Indian, alias Śūnyadiśya, he composed a poetical inscription at a Korean temple.
  • Subrahmanyam, VBC, p. 70. This Korean inscription is dated 1378 CE.
  • His Chinese biography was studied in A. Waley, New Light on Buddhism in Medieval India, Mélanges chinoise et bouddhiques, vol. 1 (1932), pp. 355-376. This reference was drawn from Arthur McKeown's dissertation (see especially his p. 27 ff., source of the date given above, which seems to create a problem with the dating of the inscription. It would also be possible to re-Sanskritize the Chinese form of his name as the less unusual name Jñānabhadra).
