‘Alā’ al-Dawla al-Simnāni (1261-1336)

Dictionary Definition: 

  • The founder of the Kubrawiyya school of Sufism, although it was named after an earlier figure Najm ad-Din Kubra aka Najmuddin Kobra (1145-1220). He belonged to Ilkhanid Mongol court of Arghun. This tradition picked up color light symbolism and visionary experiences of the same from Buddhist tantra, evidently. They practiced dark retreats and breath regulation in combination with recitation.
