Abraham ibn Chisdai (d. ca. 1240?)

Dictionary Definition: 

  • Abraham ben Samuel ha-Levi ibn Hasdai (or, ibn Hisdai). Author of Ben ha-Melekh ve-ha-Nazir, "The Prince and the Monk."
  • Lived in Barcelona. He was responsible for making the Hebrew version of the story of Barlaam and Josaphat, q.v. In English, this version is often called "The Prince and the Dervish."
